For the first time since it is opening, we open its doors to the general public. The only place on earth where we can guarantee that waves will always be pumping.

'Kelly's wave' can undoubtedly be considered the most important technological innovation in surfing since the surfboard development.

The Surf Ranch creates a kilometer-long perfect bi-directional (regular footers and goofies delight) peeling wave propelled by a steaming train in the heart of a cattle desert country in the California state.

A perfect wave engineered by humans trying to imitate nature. It always works, always pumping. Never a flat day. It also holds one of the ten mandatory stops of the World Surf League. And it has never opened its doors to the public. Until now.

WHAT IT FEELS LIKE

You are next. It is your turn. You know it. Cameras are pointing at you. All your friends are looking at you. Suddenly the sound of the wave’s engine begins. A noisy mechanical ticking and whirring, like a roller coaster climbing backward, ready to drop.

The huge train starts to drive through the water like a locomotive building momentum. It hushes the crowd. Then an infectious silence invades your body. You have to take this wave.

Once you are in it, there is an infinite sense of fulfillment. An accomplishment. You know you are a pioneer tracing the path to endless fun for all those who will come behind you.

Perfect conditions.

Conditions will certainly be clean without a drop of water out of place. Both the rights and lefts will be working with the mandatory barrel showing through the inside section.

Bring sunscreen and expect high temperatures from May to November during the day. The water temperature is mild to warm so we would suggest you bring a spring suit or a pair of good bikinis or trunks.

THE STORY

From napkin to barrel.

The first images of Kelly surfing the wave at Surf Ranch were shot on December 5, 2015. The video sent shock waves through the surfing community. The story began more than a decade earlier with Kelly Slater pulling together some of the brightest minds in fluid dynamics and committing to a formal scientific exploration into recreating the best ocean waves.

It all started on the back of a napkin, a vision set by Kelly and its founding partners. By 2009, that napkin turned into a 1:15 scale model producing 4 inch high waves. In 2015, the full-scale prototype was completed at Surf Ranch, delivering 8-foot high barreling waves. The wave at Surf Ranch is WSL Certified, hosting numerous WSL events, including the Championship Tour. The journey from napkin to competitive events was quite the journey. Thanks to the commitment from Kelly, and the KSWC and WSL team, the idea is now a reality.

    You will have five lefts and five rights, all for you. You also have the option to catch the leftover waves if your friends fall. Be nice, and don't pray for them to fail.
