A nomad guiding the group to a secret ski spot

A saddle, a snowcat and a different way into the mountains.

Explore Kyrgyzstan through horseback riding and snowcat-accessed freeriding, with time to discover the life around the mountains.

On horseback, the landscape arrives slowly. From a snowcat, anticipation builds with every metre uphill. Two different rhythms, with the same pleasure of getting outside and paying attention to where you are.

Horseback riding brings you closer to the ground and the people who know it. Settle into the saddle, follow your horse’s movement and give yourself time to find a comfortable pace. The journey matters as much as the view ahead.

On snow days, the snowcat carries you towards the next descent. Boots resting, friends talking, eyes on the slopes outside. Freeriding takes over when the door opens, with terrain chosen to suit the snow, visibility and group’s ability. There is no need for every day to look the same. Horse rides and ski outings depend on the season, conditions and local arrangements; the adventure comes from meeting each day on its own terms.

Kyrgyzstan. Mountains with lives around them.

Look beyond the slopes to discover how horses, hospitality and nomadic traditions connect people to the landscape.

Kyrgyzstan’s mountain country is more than a backdrop. Routes connect communities, horses remain part of working life, and seasonal movement still shapes pastoral traditions. Exploring here means listening as well as looking.

Nomad exploration begins with being a considerate guest. Learn from local hosts, ask before taking photographs and let people tell their own stories. A conversation over tea can stay with you as long as a mountain view.

The places you visit will have their own routines, and those routines change with the seasons. Summer pastures and winter villages offer different windows into life in the mountains. Rather than expecting one fixed picture of nomadic culture, leave room for what your hosts choose to share: the role of horses, the work of caring for animals, a family tradition or an everyday meal. These encounters give the journey context. You are travelling through a landscape that is also someone’s home.

Bring the friends who enjoy a change of pace.

For confident off-piste skiers and snowboarders who also want time in the saddle and a closer understanding of the places they visit.

Come with an appetite for active days and the flexibility to change plans. Mountain conditions shape the riding, while the best moments between outings often happen when nobody is watching the clock.

Be honest about both your snow skills and your horseback experience. Confidence on skis does not automatically transfer to a saddle. Each activity needs the right instruction, equipment and pace for the people taking part.

Freeriding requires sound off-piste skills, fitness and appropriate avalanche safety arrangements. Horse rides should be matched to your experience, with suitable horses and support confirmed before travelling. Bring companions who listen to their guides, look out for each other and respect the people welcoming them. Just as important is enjoying the quieter part of the journey: a shared meal, a conversation and time to recover. The descents may bring you here; the people and the days around them give you reasons to remember it.
